Pianist Mahoko Nakano performs internationally as a soloist and chamber musician across Europe, Asia, and Canada.

She began studying the piano at the age of four and first came to public attention as a child through regular appearances on an NHK Educational Television piano instruction programme in Japan. After her early musical training in Japan, she continued her studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and later at the École Normale de Musique de Paris, where she was awarded the Diplôme Supérieur de Concertiste by unanimous decision of the jury.

Her international career has taken her to the Banff Centre in Canada and, on two occasions, to the Cité internationale des arts in Paris. A prizewinner at several international competitions, she has appeared in solo recitals, chamber music concerts and a wide range of artistic projects, with a repertoire extending from Bach to contemporary music. Her recordings include the solo albums Live and Le Temps Romantique, as well as Au cœur du romantisme slave with the Quatuor Élysée, awarded five stars by Classica magazine.

Alongside her performing career, Nakano taught piano at university level in Japan for many years. As an author, translator and independent researcher, she has pursued work on Frédéric Chopin, Claude Debussy, and French musical and cultural history. Her artistic and scholarly activities reflect a continuing interest in the dialogue between performance, historical research, literature and the visual arts, and in creating connections across repertoires, periods and artistic disciplines.
